What worked for us : Conversations with mothers

Stories, advice and support from mothers who have children on the spectrum who are making leaps forward.

Finally, I get to do this.

To have the conversations with mothers I work with, and share them with you.

There are many mothers I am working with whose children are on the autistic spectrum and their children are making big strides in their development.

I have asked some of these mothers, whom I work with, if they would share what worked for them. This collection of mothers have something important to offer other mothers who have their own children on the spectrum, and who may be looking for advice and help with their situation.

I work with their children as their homeopath. I focus on improving their speech, understanding, cognitive development, interactions with others, physical development and also healing physical issues such as chronic constipation, eczema, asthma, delayed toileting, turns in their eyes and so on. However, we all know it’s not just homeopathy that will help their children achieve major breakthroughs. It’s a whole combination of things - and that combination will be different for different children. Just like 10 children with an autism diagnosis will present in totally different ways to each other. I have never written the exact same prescription for any of my patients. It’s a time and thought - heavy process.

So let me introduce you to Carly who is a mother of Ruben who is currently non-verbal, and who has made many improvements during the last few years. When I now watch him playing, by video call, I can see that he is trying to speak. It seems that he is saying words in his head as he plays, and it looks like he thinks we can understand him. He now plays intricately with toys like a neurotypical child - and that is down to Carly and all the things she has done, some of which she shares in this conversation recorded for you. This recording will resonate with you if you realise how significant it is to watch your child play make-believe with toys, and if you have not witnessed this yet with your own child.

I hope that you find your own gem in her words.

These recordings are not edited, or stylised. There is no entry or exit music, you may even hear someone going up my stairs. What has delayed this for 5 years is the time it takes to edit podcasts, and the hours it sucked out of my life. So I have surrendered to releasing raw recorded chats for my community. Some will be anonymous, and some names will be changed. All will be speaking their truth.

I hope this will be the beginning of a library of heartfelt, informative conversations that will connect one mother with another. Like throwing a pebble into a pool and watching the healing ripples flow outwards into the universe. Who knows where they may land.

If you have any questions for her, feel free to ask in the comments here.
